Hugo Boss has closed its US suit plant in Cleveland in favor of moving production to "low-wage plants" in Bulgaria, Turkey and Romania.

The Cleveland suit plant will close its doors in April, ending about 300 jobs there, Hugo Boss revealed late Tuesday, cited by cleveland.com.

Workers United, the union representing workers at the plant, has been negotiating with Hugo Boss for nearly a year on ways to turn around the plant.

In April of this year, union leaders said the company had made it clear that it would not forge a new worker agreement. At the time, labor leaders said they expected the plant to close next year.

Hugo Boss bought the Cleveland plant in 1995 when it bought 150-year-old Joseph & Feiss Co., a company that had made suits in plants around Cleveland since the 1800s.
