The traditional “Bulgarian Christmas” charity campaign has already raised over BGN 1,5 M after the televised concert in the Bulgarian National Theater the night of December 25, 2009.

The initiative, which is held for the 7th year in a row under the patronage of President Georgi Parvanov, is held to raise money for the treatment of sick children and purchase of expensive life saving medical equipment for Bulgarian hospitals – things which the Bulgarian state has failed to provide proper funding for over the recent years.

The donations are made to the bank account of the Bulgarian Christmas as well as through phone calls and SMS Text Messages.

BGN 1 516 185 have been raised since the 2009 campaign started about a month ago; BGN 587 935 were raised only during the concert Friday night. The funds from “The Bulgarian Christmas 2009” will be used for the treatment of 45 Bulgarian children and the purchase of medical equipment for 11 hospitals.

The campaign will last until after New Year’s, i.e. the beginning of January. A total of BGN 2 229 305 were raised in the 2008 campaign.

Almost BGN 15 M have been raised by the Bulgarian Christmas for the last seven years, with which over 400 sick children and over 90 medical clinics around the country have been supported.
