Bulgarian Hristo Stoichkov, manager of South African football team the "Mamelodi Sundowns", was delighted by their latest performance in the championship.

The "Mamelodi" team are lying in second place in the championship rankings. However, they have the advantage of having played one game less than the top team, Super Sports United.

To further strengthen their prospects, the "Mamelodi" beat their rivals by 1:0 in the final fixture of 2009. The only goal of the match was netted by Luvhengo Mungomeni in the 59th minute, and brought the team within 3 points of the championship leaders.

It was United's second defeat in their last three matches, and Sundown’s fifth on the bounce, underlining their championship credentials.

After the match Hristo Stoichkov thanked his players for their performance and for their improvement after a heavy start to the season.

"I thank the boys, I am happy for them because they worked hard during those six months. In the beginning it was difficult for them to hit it off together. But I thank them for their efforts and results. Now, the most important thing is that we'll have a vacation. I am very happy that I have three days more of vacation," Stoichkov said.
