One of the total of 30 men arrested in the special operation codenamed “The Impudent” for planning and executing high-profile kidnappings in Bulgaria in the last two years has made confessions.
Lyubomir Simeonov, aka Grebetsa (“The Rower”), has confessed his involvement in the abductions during his interrogation at the Sofia City Court Tuesday.
The Rower is one of the five men charged for being the bosses who organized the crime ring. The other four gangsters – Ivaylo Evtimov, aka Yozhi; Prokopi Prokopiev, aka the Bodybuilder; Anton Petrov, aka the Hamster, and Dimitar Dimitrov, aka the Relay – were also brought to the courtroom.
Simeonov claims that he was not directly involved in the actual kidnapping, but that he was only helping by following the victims and making observations on their homes and cars. He has also specified what roles the other members of the gang played.
Unlike Saturday, when the court decided to keep all five gangsters in jail, Simeonov was brought to the courtroom separately from the other four. He claims he was supposed to receive money for his services to the gang but that he never got paid. In addition, he had been promised connections in the criminal world.
Simeonov remains one of the main suspects and the charges against him will not be lifted by he might get a milder sentence for cooperating with the investigators.
