A large amount of money has been stolen from a bank vault in the Bulgarian town of Pazardzhik, according to police reports on Monday.

The vault was housed in a property belonging to Unicredit Bulbank, but was used by a private company that specializes in bank security.

Police had been alerted to the robbery early on Monday morning, but, on investigating, found no signs of forced entry. The bank has been closed while they complete their investigations.

The security forces have questioned bank employees and private companies dealing with bank security. They have also interviewed people living in the street where the bank is situated.

According to the bank, the money was fully insured.

This latest robbery follows a spate of recent thefts across Bulgaria, that prompted a tough response by Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov, who condemned them as “a plot”.
