"I consider myself as an political factor outside the system, and refuse to be part of the rules imposed for 20 years in the post-totalitarian country of Bulgaria," Yane Yanev announced on radio on Saturday.

Yanev, leader of the conservative Order, Law and Justice Party (RZS), was asked for the reason for the great support for him in Darik Radio’s "Politician of the Year" poll, where he is in third place.

He replied that believed that people supported him because they appreciated the fact that RZS are different.

Yanev continued: "We intend very soon to approach the Constitutional Court to annul several unconstitutional texts in the current regulations of the National Assembly.

"The regulations have more than 10 points that are contrary to constitutional provisions and that should be repealed. The National Assembly cannot be seen as an example for introducing permanent unconstitutional practices," he stated.

"We are political opponents of both BSP and DPS, and lately of GERB as well, and of GERB's satellites, but what worries us is that political repression is conducted in ways without parallel in any other European country.

"In the next few days we expect the leadership of the Union of European Conservatives and Reformists to come up with a special address to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on this issue. We look forward to that statement, because it will be extremely important in this context for Bulgaria to take on a different image before the EU," he stated.

On the subject of the recent resignation of his RZS colleague, Mario Tagarinski, Yane replied: "A great politician should be able to say "I'm mistaken, or they lied to me"."

"Isn't it logical to say I made a mistake with Mario Tagarinski? Indeed I made a mistake but the mistake is not just a single one. Like many other people make mistakes, I do too.

"We do not look upon Tagarinski as a significant factor. We believe that he is a mere tool in the hands of GERB, who wanted to do everything possible for the RZS project to be delayed or stopped, but they are mistaken if they think that this is the means by which they can achieve their goal."

Moving on to the subject of the parliamentary moratorium on property held by the heirs of the Bulgarian tsars, Yanev stated: "I proposed the moratorium for the first time in December 2005, after lodging a first warning in the Supreme Court of Cassation back in 2002.

"Seven years ago it seemed utopian to say that there would be a seizure imposed on the properties of Saxe-Coburg - at that time it seemed like madness. Today, however, this is a fact. They will be returned and I am convinced of this because, if the ruling party GERB reverses its position at the last moment, we already have the law prepared" for submission at the beginning of the new parliamentary plenary session.
