Bulgaria Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, has reported that there will soon be an indictment served against former Agriculture Minister Valeri Tsvetanov after the investigation into his time in office is near its end.

Velchev also stated that an indictment is ready against the former head of the State Forestry Agency, Stefan Yurukov.

Tsvetanov became the first former Minister in Bulgaria since 1989 to be charged with violations during his term of office after the Prosecutor’s Office changed him over land swap deals in September 2009. Yurukov was also charged together with him.

According to the World Bank, the losses incurred to the Bulgarian state from the land swap deals in recent years amounts to BGN 1 B.

Meanwhile, Velchev also praised Wednesday’s Bulgaria Parliament decision to accept amendments to the penal code including harsher punishment for kidnappers
