Magistrates in the Bulgarian Black Sea port of Varna have sentenced the former chair of Veliko Tarnovo District Court to eight months’ community service, after finding him guilty of driving while drunk.

They also adjudicated that Judge Teodor Miliev should forfeit a quarter of his regular salary during the probationary period.

55-year-old Miliev had been arrested in 2007, while driving a car in the northern Bulgarian town of Gorna Oryahovitsa with 1,71 promille of alcohol in his blood. The legal limit in Bulgaria is 0,5 promille.

He has also been ordered to meet regularly with his probation officer for a period of 14 months, and his driving license has been confiscated for one year.

Miliev may appeal against his sentence within 15 days.
