Socialist MEP Vigenin's website already has a version with a Cyrillic web address.

Kristian Vigenin from the Socialist Party has become the first Bulgarian MEP whose website address is available in Cyrillic.

Vigenin’s website http://vigenin.eu/ can already be accessed at http://вигенин.eu/ using the opportunity given to persons and firms located in the EU to register website addresses in their native languages under the .eu domain starting December 10, 2009.

The Office of Kristian Vigenin points out that the use of Cyrillic characters in website addresses gives Bulgarians who don’t speak English the chance to receive an easier access to online information.

It also reports that the number of .eu websites registered in Bulgaria in the third quarter of 2009 was 142% higher than the number of those registered in the same period of 2007, which is the greatest growth rate of .eu sites in all EU 27 countries.

Over 3 million websites already are registered under the .eu domain which is accessible to 500 million EU citizens.
