Bulgaria’s police have identified the man who was found shot with 4 bullets in the head near the Bachkovo monastery, in the vicinity of the town of Asenovgrad, as Ali Mehmet Apti, 42, from the village of Kuklen.

The execution style murder does not make any sense to the investigators because the probe in the Plovdiv village of Kuklen showed Apti had no known enemies, grudges or debts and was a respected, hard-working family man, father of two, friend and neighbor.

People from the village say Apti worked two jobs at the nearby metal processing plant and as a home repairman after work hours. The family is said to have been poor with very modest means, but the victim lately managed to purchase an old Renault Megane, the car in which he was found.

The investigators’'main version is that the murder is a case of mistaken identity and the bullets were intended for someone else.

Apti has been missing since Friday night when he left Kuklen to go to the village of Izbegli to collect some money from an acquaintance for repairs he had done at his house.

Apti’s body was discovered Saturday in his car 15 kilometers from Asenovgrad by passersby who alerted the authorities.

Curiously enough, the village of Izbegli where Apti headed to Friday, is in the opposite direction of the murder scene. The Asenovgrad Criminal Police Department is in charge of the case and the investigation continues.
