Bulgaria’s Regional Development Ministry is going to use actual “undercover agents” in order to curb corruption practices.
This has been announced Wednesday by Regional Development Minister, Rosen Plevneliev, who took part in a round table discussing the protection of people submitting corrupt signals.
Minister Plevneliev said that in the four months since he had taken over, a real change had been brought about. Over that period the Ministry has set up a phone line, a mail box, a fax line, and an email for corruption signals, and has received a total of 80 such signals by citizens through those or other channels.
Bulgaria’s Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, who also took part in the round table, said that his predecessor Plamen Oresharski very often had appointed officials without any competition. He made clear his intention to use transparency and evaluation of candidates’ ideas when making appointments.
