Picasso's Granddaughter to Inaugurate Unique Bulgaria Art Gallery

A unique for South Eastern Europe and Bulgaria, Museum Gallery of Modern Art will officially open in Sofia on December 17.

Its creators and organizers have set the goal to provide high quality masterpieces that would be available for purchase by art lovers and collectors.

The gallery's first display includes pieces from 20th century authors such as Picasso, Miro, Dali, Chagall, and Matisse along with American postwar art from Andy Warhol, De Kooning, Baskia, Hunt Slonem, Jeff Kunst and others.

Pablo Picasso's grand-daughter, Diana Picasso, will arrive in Sofia especially for the opening ceremony and will present for the first time in Bulgaria her book Art Can only Be Erotic, which includes Picasso's best-known erotic masterpieces. Diana Picasso, who is considered the world's top Picasso expert, will also have a lecture for Bulgaria's art lovers.

The creators say they wish to develop Bulgaria's taste for art and the collector's spirit by offering art works of the highest museum quality. The gallery will attract art experts from Christie's, Sotheby's, the Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Oxford, Cambridge and the Sorbonne Universities. It will also offer advice on purchasing art objects, along with private displays and exhibits for collectors only.

The Museum Gallery of Modern Art is located in downtown Sofia, on “Oborishte” street.
