A Bulgarian is the author of the material published in the UK Sun claiming the Bulgarian mafia had demanded GBP 500 000 from Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov in order to leave his family alone.

The British tabloid, along with several other UK media outlets, published Wednesday reports that Bulgarian mafia dons asked Berbatov to give them the money in exchange of promises they they will not kidnap his wife Elena and newborn daughter Dea.

Upon an inquiry from Bulgaria, made with the Sun editorial staff, they said they purchased the article from an Austrian based media called “Central European News.” The Austrians, on their part, informed the article has been written by their correspondent in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian dir.bg reports Thursday.
