Bulgaria MPs Reject Cuts in President's Budget, RZS Leaves Debate

The Members of the Bulgarian Parliament rejected late Wednesday the proposal of the conservative Order, Law and Justice party (RZS) to reduce the presidential institution’s budget.

Earlier RZS proposed to reduce the funds by BGN 1 M and redirect the money to the so-called “Kushlev” committee in charge of investigating and confiscating property acquired through illegal activities.

After the vote the RZS Members of the Parliament left the debate in sign of protest.

“In the very beginning of the debate RZS withdrew over 30 of its proposals in order to keep this one, to reduce the President’s budget, and we had the commitment even of Deputy Prime Minister, Simeon Djankov,” the RZS leader Yane Yanev said at the door.

Yanev accused the MPs from the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party of changing their mind at the last moment and voting against curbing the presidential institution’s spending.
