Tsvetelin Kanchev, the leader of “Euroroma”, the Bulgarian Roma union, has been arrested by the police on Tuesday, although the reason for his detention remained unclear.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kanchev’s name had been associated with a case of blackmail, when four other men were detained. One of them was Hristo Varbanov, uncle of the folk singer Azis.
It was revealed that Kanchev had been present at a meeting of the blackmailers with the victim, Nikola Nikolov, ex-head of the Bulgarian Civil Defense Directorate.
