Bulgaria's President, Georgi Parvanov, informed Tuesday that the country's Ambassador to the US, Lachezar Petkov, has officially submitted his resignation.

Parvanov further says the decrees for the discharge of Petkov and the Ambassador to Turkey, Branimir Mladenov, would be issued no later than Wednesday.

The President spoke during a special meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Tsetska Tsacheva, to discuss the Tax Act amendments in order to speed up the passing of the 2010 State budget. The Bulgarian information agency BGNES reports that Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, had made the surprise decision to take part in the discussion despite the fact the meeting has not been on his Tuesday agenda.

In the beginnign of November, the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party demanded Petkov’s and Mladenov's recall over violations during the general elections in July 2009.

On November 13, Mladenov submitted his resignation.

The President returned the request to the cabinet without signing it.
