Hristina Hristova, the new leader of NMSP, the party of former Tsar and Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg, has stated that outgoing EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva is worthy to run for President.

Hristova described Kuneva as “wealth for the NMSP, capital for Bulgaria, European of the year and EU Commissioner of the year.” She added that Kuneva is worthy of running for the Head of State position in 2 years but confirmed that no party or personal discussions had been held on the issue.

"NMSP has a 8-year history of operating the state. We need a new and important transition of power within the party outside parliament...decisions need to be made from the bottom-up, Hristeva said. She continued that she would be seeking advice from former party leader Saxe-Coburg.

Hristova concluded by saying that the liberal NMSP would continue "working for the middle class and to continue the family and the green policies.” She also admitted that the NMSP had lost public support because of its participation in the former ruling tri-partite coalition.

“I would rather work with the current president and prime minister, than think about my life in two years' time, when someone may nominate me for president of the republic,” Kuneva said earlier Monday.

Hristova was elected as leader of the National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NMSP) by the party special congress which convened Saturday.
