A light earthquake which occurred in Northeastern Bulgaria Monday morning has led to the evacuation of 1 000 schoolchildren in the Black Sea town of Kavarna.

A 3,7-magnitude earthquake that hit Northeastern Bulgaria at 7:48 am Monday was felt most tangibly in the Black Sea towns of Kavarna and Shabla.

Its epicenter was about 430 km to the northeast of Sofia, about 10 km off Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast near the Kamen Brayg village, the Seismology Center of the Geophysical Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announced.

The schoolchildren in Kavarna were evacuated for about an hour from their school buildings and then returned safely and resumed their lessons. No damages or casualties have been reported.

The earthquake was also felt in some of the nearby villages in the Dobrich District.

On August 5, 2009, Shabla and Kamen Brayg were hit by a 5-magnitude quake which caused cracks in some buildings, and led to a visit of PM Borisov on the spot, and the allocation of government aid.
