Bulgaria’s Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, has stated that the police were working actively to solve the kidnapping of Rumen Guninski Jr, who was released Sunday night after 40 days in captivity.

“The most important thing for me is that the Interior Ministry is doing its job, and I am convinced that there will be justice and that our work will be rewarded,” Tsvetanov said regarding the case of Guninski who is the son of a wealthy businessman.

22-year-old Guninski Jr is reported to have been released for a ransom of EUR 300 000, according to unofficial information.

Interior Minister Tsvetanov has declined to comment at all on whether any ransom has been paid for the release of the young man.

“We are working with optimism to capture the group who kidnapped the boy. I would like to assure everybody that we are doing everything we can to protect the interest of the citizens,” the Minister declared.

He also said the young man was in a good health condition, that no violence had been used against him by his abductors, and that his psychological state was stabilizing.

Rumen Guninski Jr. was released by his kidnappers on the stadium in the town of Elin Pelin east of Sofia Sunday night. He was made to lie down on his face; after some time, he got up and asked the first person he ran into to use his mobile phone.
