Bulgaria to Construct Natural Gas Network Connection to Serbia

Bulgaria is going to build a pipeline connecting its natural gas network to that of Serbia.

This has been announced by Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism, Maya Hristova.

The Bulgarian part of the pipeline will cost EUR 60 M, which will be provided through the Regional Development Operational Program.

Hristova said the project for the Bulgaria-Serbia gas connection first appeared in 2005 but talks on it were only resumed last week.

Initially, the idea behind the project had been to deliver gas through Bulgaria for Serbia, but now a two-way connection is being discussed.

Bulgaria is also working on building pipes to Greece and Romania in order to diversify its transit connections since its gas supply system only has connections to Russia and Turkey.
