Bulgaria’s EU Commissioner designate, Rumiana Jeleva, has commented after the announcement of her portfolio that her bid for the EU Enlargement portfolio had hardly had any chance of succeeding.

Bulgaria's Foreign Minister, Rumiana Jeleva, has been named the new EU Commissioner on International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response.

"The Enlargement portfolio is certainly something we could not get especially because of the applications for EU accession of Turkey and Macedonia, too many things have been said, including over the recent months, so it was already impossible,” Jeleva explained as cited by BGNES.

“I think that my work will be very hard because there are crises all the time. I am very happy I’ll be in charge of international cooperation because my responsibilities are also going to include relations with countries in Asia and Latin America, which have a huge potential,” the still acting Bulgarian Foreign Minister said.
