Perpetrator Promised BGN 10 000 for Blagoevgrad Acid Attack

The Bulgarian police have arrested 23-year-old Kaloyan Gushterov who is suspected as the perpetrator as the recent acid attack in the southwestern city of Blagoevgrad.

The man attacked two women from the town of Gotse Delchev – Hristina Koldzhieva and Maria Koemdzhieva, and faces up to 12 years in jail.

He is reported to have made partial confessions. The Prosecutor’s Office is requesting Friday the detention of 31-year-old Ventsislav Dobrev, who is suspected of having ordered the acid attack.

The Blagoevgrad police has announced that Gushterov had been promised BGN 10 000 if he carried out the acid attack.

24-year-old Hristina Koldzhieva was the target of the attack. The previous day she complained to the police that her former boyfriend had issued murder threats against her.

Her face and eyes have been severely burned, and she has been transported for treatment to a medical clinic in Sofia.
