The ex-Minister of Finance, present municipal councilor and Sofia mayoral contest runner-up Georgi Kadiev, has testified before the Bulgarian National Investigation Services.

He has explained on Friday that he was questioned about a tax crimes case, but he refused to say against whom the investigation was being directed.

According to sources inside Bulgaria’s Prosecutor’s Office, Kadiev had testified in the case being brought against Maria Murgina, ex-Director of the National Revenue Agency (NRA).

Last May, the Prosecutor's Office laid three charges against Murgina for criminal breach of trust, false property declaration, and putting her employees under duress. She was also stripped of her right to access classified information.

This followed an investigation prompted by an earlier warning by the leader of RZS, Yane Yanev, about a scheme within NRA for siphoning off VAT.
