Sweden Nominates Minister Malmstrom for EU Commissioner

Swedish PM Fredrik Reinfeldt named Tuesday Cecilia Malmstrom, as the nominee for Sweden's post on the European Commission.

Current Sweden's EU Minister, Malmstrom and International Development Minister Gunilla Carlsson and Foreign Affairs Minister Carl Bildt were all tipped to succeed the outgoing Swedish representative Margot Wallstrom.

PM Reinfeldt will chair a special summit in Brussels Thursday where policymakers are expected to agree who will get the new top three jobs at the EU, including the first ever permanent president of the European Council.

Reinfeldt said the recommendation is supported by the opposition, citing Malmstrom's seven-year experience in the European Parliament.
