The Bulgarian conservative party RZS (“Order, Law, Justice”) is on the rise after Sunday’s elections for Sofia Mayor.

This was stated by the party leader, Yane Yanev, during the RZS news conference Sunday night.

The party candidate for Sofia Mayor, architect Plamen Popov, came in third after GERB’s Fandakova (about 67%) and BSP’s Kadiev (about 27%), with about 3,6% of the votes. All other candidates combined have received about 4%.

Even though it is backing the GERB government, unlike the Ataka party and the Blue Coalition, the RZS had decided to have a runner of its own.

“If we had not participated on our own, we would look now like the Blue Coalition who sat together with GERB on the winners’ table but remained silent,” Yanev said.

He insisted that the Bulgarian Socialist Party should not declare itself the only opposition and alternative to the GERB government because it had no right to that.

“We saw a lot more conceit in GERB than is normal, GERB must realize the actual situation,” Yanev said.
