Bulgarian marketing solutions company Via Call has foreseen a threat to its business with the inauguration of a national electronic company register on Saturday.

The Bulgarian Commission for Protection of Consumers (KZP) had announced on Saturday the opening of a national electronic register. The register has been designed as an effective tool to punish spammers, according to the KZP.

Earlier, in an email distributed on Friday, Via Call appealed: "let us take urgent measures before thousands of people register and start suing us".

One of the services of Via Call is direct email campaigns. A serious problem, according to the company, is that all emails in the electronic register have to be individually checked, and there is even a protection code.

"How can companies that send direct commercial announcements, clear the unwanted addressees from their email lists? There are still those who want to receive electronic messages,” Via Call pointed out.

KZP had also stated that fines of up to BGN 1 500 would be applied to violations. Via Call has announced it hopes to meet with KZP management to discuss ways in which the Commission will protect its rights and those of similar service companies.
