The Bulgarian Medical Association (BMA) has announced that doctors are ready to protest in front of the Bulgarian Parliament over the amount of money provided for the health sector in Budget 2010.

The BMA Secretary General, Dimitar Lenkov, stated Saturday that Bulgarian medical staff can not accept the BGN 200 M reduction in funding of hospital care proposed in the 2010 budget. “With the huge BGN 1,3 B fiscal reserve in the Bulgarian National Bank, this should not be happening, ” he said.

Lenkov added; “We have no information when they (the protests) will happen, we do not yet know, but we will protest.”

The Vice-President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions (KNCB), Ivan Kokalov, supported the BMA and said that “we need healthy people to be able to overcome the crisis and, of course, keep moving forward."
