Bulgaria’s ex-Labor Minister, Emiliya Maslarova, has stated in written that she agreed to have her MP immunity lifted.

Earlier on Friday it was announced that the Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev had demanded the lifting of her immunity so that charges could be raised against her for her work as Minister in 2005-2009.

Maslarova has declared that over the last six months she and her family had been the target of “inhuman moral and political harassment”.

In her words, the charges to be pressed against her contained names that she had never heard; she said she had never been interrogated or approached by the law enforcement authorities in any way.

The former Labor Minister believes she is the target of a well-organized plot against former Ministers of the Bulgarian Socialist Party. She is going to cooperate with the Prosecutor’s Office but hopes that after that somebody is going to be held accountable for the libel against her.

After taking over, Maslarova’s successor Totyu Mladenov has uncovered alleged violations of public procurement procedures at the Labor Ministry, including ones favoring private firms that are believed to be close to Maslarova.
