The Bulgarian police have found the van with which 22-year-old student Rumen Guninski Jr. had been kidnapped.

Gunenski Jr., the son of a wealthy businessman from the town of Pravetz, was kidnapped in public in Sofia on October 19, 2009.

The news about the discovery of the car was announced by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, in Veliko Tarnovo.

The van has been found in the outskirts of Sofia. The police investigation showed that it had been stolen earlier in the Bulgarian capital.

According to Borisov, the van has been burned out completely, and there were no traces left on it that could give clues to the investigators, which was a sign that the kidnappers were really professional.

The Prime Minister also said a new anti-abductions act would be tabled to Parliament within ten days. It would envisage a 30-year sentence for those responsible for kidnappings, and a state fund of BGN 100 000 in order to provide for swift reaction on abduction cases.
