The Prime Minister of the German Baden-Württemberg province, Günter Oettinger, was officially nominated Saturday as Germany’s new EU Commissioner.
Oettinger, 56, is from Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, and one of her closest allies, and has been chosen because of his expertise in economic affairs, German media report.
Oettinger will replace Social-Democrat, Gunter Verheugen, who is the EU Vice President for Enterprise and Industry
