The Bulgarian government is going to demonopolize the registration of the Internet domains .bg and its Cyrillic version .бг, which is not yet available.

This has been announced by Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Transport, IT and Communications, Parvan Rusinov, as quoted by the Pari Daily.

Rusinov has said the demonopolization would be carried out through the creation of a register of the .bg and .бг domains, and thus they could be sold by different private companies.

Currently, the registration for Bulgaria’s national Internet domain .bg is performed through Register BG, which is a subsidiary of the state-owned company “Digital Systems”. The annual fee for a .bg domain is BGN 70, whereas for a .com domain the price could be as low as BGN 20.

Deputy Minister Rusinov has pointed out that one of the top priorities of the new government was providing 100% of the Bulgarian population with broadband Internet coverage by 2013. He also announced that all online services of the Bulgarian state administration would be launched at the beginning of 2010.
