The US has no intentions of investing any additional funds in the joint-use military training facilities in Bulgaria, Defense Minister, Nikolay Mladenov states Wednesday.

Mladenov's explanation addressed media publications over the last few days that Bulgaria expects more funds for the military bases in the country, adding that there will be no new US commitments, in addition to the ones already made.

The Defense Minister spoke at the conclusion of the meeting with his counterparts from South-Eastern Europe, held in Sofia. He also said that the meeting had not discussed new missions in Afghanistan, just the more effective use of the capacity of military contingents already there.

Mladenov pointed out that in times of crisis the country must carefully reassess short-term and long-term defense projects and commitments and that the Novo Selo Bulgaria-US base could be used for military training by Bulgaria's neighbors as well.
