Bulgarian businessmen from the city of Sliven took part Tuesday in a meeting with US army officers at the Novo Selo training ground.

The meeting was organized as a training session and was held over planned and upcoming construction works at the Bulgaria-US joint-use military training facility. The businessmen were appraised of the scope of the work and the US requirements towards the contractor companies.

The businessmen training included contract negotiations and fulfillment of future contracts for the supply of goods and services and participation in projects for civil and humanitarian aid.

“The Americans have high criteria, the deadlines are much shorter than in civil contracts. Security is of prime importance. Those who work at the base should have clean criminal records and pass a narcotics use test. Their background checkups will be conducted by Bulgarian and American security services,” the Mayor of Sliven, Marin Kavrakov, explained upon the meeting's conclusion.

Kavrakov pointed out the planned construction of the Novo Selo military base is an unique chance for the local business and for the local labor market.
