Bulgaria FBI Questions Galeria Newspaper Editors Team

The Editor-in-Chief of Bulgaria's sensational daily "Galeria," Zoya Dimitrova, was called for questioning at the National Agency for State Security (DANS) Tuesday.

Dimitrova, who is also the former spokesperson of DANS, and the “Galeria” journalist, Kristina Petrashkova, were interrogated over a DANS report recently published in the newspaper.

Petrashkova told the media the report has been received via email by the Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Yavor Dachkov, adding Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has confirmed the report's authenticity and ordered a probe.

Dachkov arrived at the DANS headquarters with his colleagues but was not allowed inside. He stated he was not worried over the alleged public dissemination of classified information.

“Corruption is not classified information. When we are talking about corrupt ministers from the former cabinet, no one should be alarmed when such information is revealed,” Dachkov said.

The newspaper, which was just launched last week, has the same name as the infamous spying case DANS is alleged to have conducted during the term of the previous cabinet against representatives of the Bulgarian media.

Information about a DANS report submitted to former Bulgaria PM, Sergey Stanishev, regarding corruption in high echelons of power, including ministers, first emerged in the beginning of September.

At the time, YaneYanev, the leader of the conservative Order, Law and Justice (RZS) party, accused Stanishev of concealing the report, something the former PM firmly denied.

Almost at the same time as parts of the report leaked through the “Galeria” newspaper, current PM, Boyko Borisov, confirmed in a TV interview that there is indeed such report and he had just received it from DANS.
