20% of Small Hotels in Bulgaria's Capital Sofia to Shut down

Some 20% of all small hotels in the Bulgarian capital Sofia will be closed down by the end of 2009 as a result of the economic crisis.

This has been forecast by the Sofia Municipal Company “Tourist Service”, as quoted by the Sega Daily.

According to data provided by “Tourist Service”, by the end of September 2009, a total of 47 small hotels, motels, and hostels with a total of 635 beds in the one-, two- or three-star category, have submitted notices that they are going to terminate their business activity. Another 12 hotels are expected to follow suit bringing the total number of those to be shut down to 59.

A total of 297 small hotels, hostels, motels and guest apartments with over 10 000 beds are currently registered at the Sofia Municipality.
