The Bulgarian cab drivers request that the ceiling prices for their services are set by the local municipalities.

The information was reported by the Director of the “Automobile Administration” Agency, Lyubomir Hristov, who said the proposal is to be submitted to the cabinet and the Parliament.

Hristov said this measure will give the right to local administration to determine the maximum price for the taxi services in a particular region, according to local conditions and income, and to avoid prices that are too high and do not correspond to the local market.

Hristov said the fact the Commission for Consumer Protection receives daily complaints about cab services, shows there is a real problem with those services in the country.

The amendments of the Automobile Transport Act are to be ready by the next month and will include more requirements and more sanctions for carriers.

Hristov, however, rejects accusations coming from the “National Taxi Drivers Association” that some cab companies practice tax evasion and do not pay insurance.
