A strong earthquake has shaken the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, officials say.

The tremor measuring 6,4 on the Richter scale struck off the eastern island of Java. There are no initial reports of injuries or damage, the BBC reported.

It comes two weeks after a 7,6 quake hit the island of Sumatra, killing some 1 000 people.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most active areas for earthquakes and volcanic activity in the world.
