The 47-year-old Valentin Penchev is the “syringe stabber” who has carried out pedophile attacks recently, mostly in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The syringe maniac’s identity has been revealed by the District Prosecutor of Sofia, Alexander Nalbantov, as cited by the 24 Chasa Daily.
Over the last few months, the man attacked young kids around Sofia attempting to abuse them sexually, and threatening or stabbing them with a syringe. However, Penchev is also believed to be responsible for a total of 18 pedophile attacks since 2000.
Penchev has been detained for 72 hours, and on Friday the Sofia Court is going to decide on his permanent detention. The prosecutors are gathering information on all the various pedophile attacks that the man has been involved in.
Penchev has already been charged with child molestation, and at least three more similar changes will be filed against him by the end of the week.
Currently, the police are investigating information that Penchev picked his victims when he used to work as an ambulance driver in 2003-2004. The man is also a former army officer, and a former guard in a Sofia security firm.
The syringe maniac was captured after he attacked an eight-year-old girl, Stanislava, in the village of Vedrare near Karlovo, pretending to be an electricity company worker. As the girl started screaming, however, he ran away, and she managed to remember the license plate number of his car.
Stanislava, however, has also seen another man in the car, who might turn out to be his accomplice. The police have not announced any information about him. The people in the village of Vedrare where the pedophile’s last attack occurred think the alleged accomplice might still be nearby, and are really scared for their kids.
