Nokia, the global leader in mobile communications, will oversee its operations across six markets on the Balkans from a regional hub in Bulgaria.

This was announced by Greig Williams, head of the recently established unit Nokia Alps South East Europe, who paid a visit to Bulgaria for the official launch of Nokia Messaging service.

The Bulgarian eight-member team will be in charge of the company business in Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and Bulgaria.

“This is a huge achievement for Bulgaria, having in mind that most majors manage their operations in Bulgaria from abroad,” Rosen Petrov, Nokia Regional Manager for these six countries, told Pari daily.

Nokia's Messaging solution is meant to offer users a simple method to simplify the mobilization of their email accounts.

The solution enables mobile phone users to access a number of up to 10 email accounts directly from their handsets, and comes with a very simple setup process that eliminates unnecessary intermediate steps.

Moreover, it also comes with push-email technology, so that users are prompted anytime a new message arrives in their inbox, delivering the emails directly to the mobile device.

In Bulgaria Nokia has joined forces with the three mobile operators and the three biggest providers of email services - abv.bg, mail.bg and dir.bg, which account for 90% of the market among those consumers who are not subscribers of majors like Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail.

Greig Williams forecast that globally and in Bulgaria Internet consumers via mobile phones will outnumber those in front of their computers by 2010.

“This opens a whole new market for us,” Greig Williams commented.

He said the company plans to launch as least three new services in Bulgaria next year, including Ovi Store and Nokia Maps.
