Spanish Police Search for Bulgarian over Stephen Gately Death

A Bulgarian man is being searched for by Spanish police in relation to the mysterious death of Boyzone member Stephen Gately.

33-year-old Gately who was found dead on Saturday by his partner Andy Cowles allegedly “died after choking on his own vomit following a drinking session,” the Daily Mail reported.

Spanish police reported that the couple had invited a Bulgarian called Giorgio back to their GBP 1 M home in Mallorca late Friday night after they met him the Black Cat nightclub in Palma.

The police believe the Bulgarian could help them unravel the mystery surrounding the death. A police source said: 'We do not think this man is involved in any way in Stephen's death but his testimony could prove vital. It is not known if Giorgio left Gately's flat before or after he was found dead, the Daily Mail reported.

A post-mortem examination on Gately’s body is expected to be carried out Tuesday because it is a public holiday in Spain Monday.

Meanwhile, Sir Elton John said he was 'stunned' by the death, describing Boyzone singer Gately as the 'kindest, gentlest soul'.

Boyzone was created in 1993, and saw immense popularity in the 1990s before splitting in 2009. In 2007, the group made a comeback appearance.
