Bulgaria's trade deficit in July 2009 was BGN 870 M, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute.

This is BGN 43 M more than the BGN 827 M announced in September by the Bulgarian National Bank.

Thus, Bulgaria’s total trade deficit for January-July 2009 has reached BGN 5,553 B instead of the BGN 5,551 B announced previously.

After declining in April, May, and June as Bulgaria’s export started to grow faster than the import, in July 2009 the trade deficit started to rise again.

Bulgaria’s largest state trading partner is Germany to which Bulgaria exports goods and services for BGN 1,38 B, and imports goods and services for BGN 2,42 B
