The Executive Director of the regional branch of Bulgaria’s National Revenue Agency in the Danube city of Ruse, and 12 of his subordinates have been fired Thursday over VAT violations.

The thirteen tax inspectors refunded value-added tax in large amount to a local firm, the press center of the NRA announced. They are being investigated by the police and prosecutor’s office.

The documents providing evidence the tax officials in Ruse were involved in tax abuse during a special operation of the police and the NRA. Further consequences for the 13 tax inspectors

The NRA head, Krasimir Stefanov, said there was solid evidence that all the 13 officials were accomplices in the VAT abuse scheme.

“There will be no compromises, and we are going to cooperate fully with the prosecutors to make sure that everyone who committed abuses should get the respective punishment,” Stefanov declared.
