The former Inter Milan coach, Roberto Mancini, may become the new national team coach of Bulgaria after the current World Cup qualifying campaign.
Levski Sofia legend Nikolay Iliev reported Wednesday that his close friend Mancini may be interested in a move to Eastern Europe. He also said that when Mancini was told of the possibility of the Bulgaria position he immediately asked if it was possible.
Iliev and Mancini met last week at the 100th anniversary of Bologna FC, a team that they both played for, Bulgarian ‘Tema Sport’ newspaper reported.
According to unnamed sources the Bulgarian Football Union is willing to pay the Italian EUR 700 000 a year plus a bonus if Bulgaria qualifies for Euro 2012.
Mancini starred as a player for Sampdoria and Lazio and has coached Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter Milan. He also made 36 appearances for Italy scoring 4 goals.
