The Financial Minister Simeon Djankov's plans to cut Bulgaria's state administration staff by 15% will create unwanted tension and will worsen the quality of work.

The Federation of the Independent Government Employees Syndicates have sent Tuesday a letter to the Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, warning him of the consequences of such government actions.

According to the syndicates, the administration staff should not be reduced before a thorough analyzes of the different sectors, their significance, responsibilities and work is done.

“For almost 20 years we have been forced to bear different ideas, practices and legislation changes regarding the state administration employees”, the letter further says.

The syndicate reminds that 10% of the administration staff were sacked in 2007, followed by a 12% reduction in 2008. In addition, the lay-offs in the Interior Ministry are still not over.

Recently, Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, asked all Ministers to cut their staff by 15%. Currently, 145 000 people work in the state administration, which means that if the changes are made, 20 000 of them will lose their job.
