Swedish EU Presidency Hails Results of Ireland Lisbon Treaty Referendum

Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, holder of the European Union presidency, comments the outcome of the Irish Lisbon Treaty referendum during a press conference in Stockholm, Sweden, 03 October 2009.

The Swedish Presidency of the EU has welcomed the first reports about the results from Friday’s referendum in Ireland on the Lisbno Treaty ratification.

“Today is a good day for Europe,” declared Fredrik Reinfeldt, Sweden’s Prime Minister who chairs the rotating EU Presidency regarding the news that the Irish voters have supported the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty with a sweeping “yes”.

The European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso, and the European Parliament Chair, Jerzy Buzek have also described the Irish “yes” vote as “good news for Europe”.
