Bulgaria's second-biggest mobile operator Globul, a unit of Greek Cosmote, has launched a pilot project for the development of a service for bank payments via the mobile phone.

Clients of banking operator SEP Bulgaria, Alliantz Bank Bulgaria and Post Bank will be able to avail themselves of the service within a few months. Negotiations for joining the unique for Bulgaria project are underway with the first and biggest mobile operator Mobiltel and the third one – Vivacom.

There will be three services on offer, called Mobile Wallet, Mobile Banking and E-Wallet.

Users will have at their disposal the money in their bank account at any moment and will be able to order transfers to all banks in the country, to make payments online and in different commercial sites, to pay utility services fees and to receive information about the status of their bank accounts in real time.

All the users need to use the services is a separate SIM card with a built-in electronic signature, which is issued free of charge by SEP Bulgaria.

Every subscriber who activates the Mobile Wallet service can also receive a special microchip for contactless payments which allows to make payments of up to BGN 20 without having to type in a PIN code.
