Russia will continue to insist on having a share in the Belene Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to be built by "Atomstroiexport."

The statement was made by the "Atmostroiexport" CEO, Sergey Kirienko, cited by the Russian information Agency RIA Novosti.

Kirienko is further quoted as telling Bulgarian media that if the State was to announce a public tender for the NPP, Russia would definitely participate.

The "Atomstroiexport" CEO further pointed out that at the beginning, the Russian side considered participating as guarantor, not as investor, but now they wish to take part in the tender over their certainty Belene is a profitable project.

According to Kirienko, it is irrelevant for Russia exactly what share of the NPP would remain property of the Bulgarian State.
