Three men have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to launch an attack in the United States, the US Justice Department informs, cited by BBC.

All three are Afghan nationals. Two of them, a father and son, were arrested in Denver, Colorado, while the third man was detained in New York.

US media have reported that the investigation involves people in the US, Pakistan and other countries and was focusing on a possible plan to attack a public area in New York.

David Kris, Assistant Attorney General for National Security, is quoted as saying the US authorities did "not have specific information regarding the timing, location or target of the plot."

During the week police raided the Denver home of Najibullah Zazi, a 24-year-old airport shuttle driver, who was taken for three days of questioning. Zazi's arrest was followed by the one of his father Mohammed Zazi, 53. They will be both tried Monday in Colorado while the third suspect, Ahmad Wais Afzali, 37, faces trial in New York.

Najibullah Zazi denies media reports that he had admitted he was linked to al-Qaeda.
