A man with a criminal record was shot midday Sunday in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Burgas.

Road rage over taking the right of way is the reason for the shooting, Darik radio reports.

Four individuals travelling in a car stopped and surrounded a man on a motorbike, after the latter failed to yield the right of way. The biker became terrified, took out a gun he legally owned, and shot one of the four people.

The victim, 24-year-old Kaloyan Stoyanchov, aka Rizhia (Red Haired), is a well-known underworld figure in Burgas with a long rap sheet including beatings, harassment of neighbors and illegal gun ownership.

The shooter is reported as 39-year old former police employee, Petko Lisichkov. He is behind bars for 24 hours.

The Burgas police are investigating the incident.
