The parliamentary budget committee has assigned the National Audit Office (NAO) to check the Agriculture Fund, the NAO Director, Valeri Dimitrov, informs.

The Agriculture Fund audit and the audit of the company Management of Environmental Activities (PUDOOS) were requested by the Audit Office over one year ago, but the audits, finally, will be officially assigned to them after being discussed and passed in plenary hall.

PUDOOS is a State owned company and the Audit Office cannot check it up without a parliamentary decision, Dimitrov explained, adding PUDOOS was a very risky office in terms of violations since nobody had verified what was going on there for years.

Dimitrov said they already began looking at the Council of Ministers' documentation and explained the first audit would be a purely financial one, while PUDOOS was more complex and would involve verfication of how State budget resources had been utilized and what was the efficiency of the PUDOOS activities.

When asked if the National Audit Office might receive from the Parliament the assignment to check the Belene Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Dimitrov confirmed it was a likely task, pointing out the NPP is a complex project and the public and NAO never had access to information about it.
